Reservations: Compare prices on DeSalis Stansted Airport

Location

The DeSalis Hotel London Stansted is just outside the airport perimeter.  It’s 5 minutes by shuttle bus to the terminal building.  The hotel is positioned away from the flight path, so you won’t hear the planes roaring overhead and you’ll be able to appreciate the acres of woodland around the hotel.

Parking

Most rooms come with a day’s free parking and there are package deals including a night’s accommodation with long term parking.  The hotel is actually closer to the airport than the official Stansted car parks, so you won’t have as far to go to collect your car.  (When you’re tired or in a rush, that makes all the difference!)  Long term parking prices start at £3.50 per day (March 2010).

Check-in/out and breakfast

You can check in any time after 12 noon.  Check-out is at 11 am.  If you’re in a hurry you can ask to use the Express Check-Out service.  If you’re up and about early you can eat something from the continental breakfast buffet from 3 am.  The Full English starts at 7 am and is served until 12 noon.

Shuttle bus

The shuttle bus will have you at the terminal in about 5 minutes.  It runs to the airport every 20 minutes, 24 hours a day.  When you arrive back at the airport after your trip, you call the hotel and the driver will pick you up at bay 36 in the Bus and Coach Station within 7-10 minutes.  Pick ups are available until midnight and you can also pre-book them.  This great transfer service makes it a no-hassle option for holiday parking.

Hotel facilities

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building and there are computers you can use for free in the reception area if you haven’t brought your laptop with you.  If you’ve got the time, you can explore the garden.  There’s a receptionist on hand 24 hours a day and a porter to help you with your luggage.  The bar and restaurant are open from 6 pm to midnight and there are both Indian and English menus.  There are high chairs for the kiddies.  The hotel is entirely non smoking.

The DeSalis Hotel Stansted Airport has 50 guest rooms, including single, twin, double and family rooms, which can sleep 3 or 4 adults (even if you aren’t related!)  They’re all en suite and some have Jacuzzi, which you can book for an extra-relaxing evening.  They all have complimentary Wi-Fi access, TV, DVD player, radio alarm clock and telephone.  For those who need to look their best in the morning, they also provide you with a trouser press, iron and board and hairdryer. Executive rooms are perfect for travelling business people as they come with a computer and printer in a separate work area.  Family rooms with interconnecting doors are available and they can put in a cot if you’re bringing baby along.  You can order room service rather than going down the restaurant if you feel like it.  There’s no smoking in the hotel.

Accessibility

The hotel has 2 wheelchair accessible rooms.  The bar and restaurant are fully accessible.

Directions

If you’re coming by car, get off the M11 motorway at junction 8.  Go towards the terminal building, following the signs towards the short stay car park and Radisson SAS.  When you get to last roundabout before the terminal (Coopers End Roundabout) take the fourth exit, sign posted Molehill Green.  There’s a mini roundabout just after this, where you need to take a left towards Molehill and Elsenham.  Drive along this road for 3.5 km, passing the Three Horse Shoes Pub and after a couple of minutes you will see the DeSalis Hotel London Stansted Airport on your right-hand side.

Airport views

This place is very close to the airport, but not close enough to get a view of the planes. If that’s important to you, try the Radisson SAS Stansted Airport instead.

Parking

They’ve got a car park at the back of the hotel.  The first 2 days are free and each day after that is £5.  You’re welcome to leave your car there for the duration of your trip and you should reserve your long stay parking when you book your room.

Check-in/out and breakfast

You have to check in between 4 pm and 11.30 pm and check out in the morning by 10 am.  You can help yourself to the cold breakfast buffet from 6 am, which consists of toast, jams, cereal, juice and hot drinks.  This costs £3 per person.

Shuttle bus

Some room bookings have airport transfers included in the price.  The shuttle runs between 6 am and 10 am and 4 pm and 11 pm, every hour, on the hour.  If you don’t have transfers included, they’ll cost you £4 per room, per journey.  You have to pre book this and in this case, you won’t be able to catch any of the shuttles before 8 am.  If you prefer to walk to the airport you can do that in about 15 minutes.

Hotel facilities

There’s a breakfast room where you can make use of the free wireless internet connection up until 11 pm.  The Stansted Guest House is set in 3 acres of grounds with mature gardens where you can take a refreshing walk.  They don’t do meals here but there’s a country pub nearby where you can get a beer and something to eat.  It’s 15 minutes walk along an unlit country road, or you can get a taxi for about £6.  A couple of requests – no smoking in the guest house and no guests under 8 years old.

Guest rooms

All the bedrooms are en suite and you can choose a single, double, twin or family room (which has a double bed and 2 singles).  There are 10 rooms altogether; they all have showers and some have baths.  Each of them has a TV with digital channels.  You’ll find they have the stuff you need to make yourself a nice cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate.  There’s no smoking in the guest house and children have to be at least 8 years old.

The owners of the Stansted Guest House are planning to carry out improvement works in 2011 to add 2 accessible bedrooms to their facilities.  At present, however, the guest house is not adapted for disabled guests (May 2010).

Directions

Turn off the M11 Motorway at Junction 8 (don’t take the new airport sliproad), then head towards Takeley on the B1256.  After 2 and a half miles you will come to some traffic lights – turn left there.  Go along this road for 1 mile and when the road bends to the right you will see the Stansted Guest House on your left.  If you come to a small roundabout at the entrance to the airport, you’ve gone too far.

Airport views

The Stansted Guest House is very close to the airport but doesn’t have views of the runway.  For that you could try the Radisson SAS Stansted Airport.

Check-in/out and breakfast

Check-in is from 3 pm; if you need to get in earlier than that you can telephone in advance and they’ll see what they can do.  You can check out up until noon, but if you want a long lie, ask at reception when you arrive – they’ll do their best to give you a late check-out.  They also have an express check-out service; to use this, leave your credit card details at reception when you check in.  Porters can give you a hand with your luggage when you’re arriving or departing.  There’s a full English or continental breakfast on offer between 5 am and 10 am, or 11 am at weekends when you can have an extra hour in bed (as long as you don’t have to get up to catch your flight!)

Shuttle bus

They run a shuttle bus to the airport which takes 6 minutes.  It costs £2 per adult and children under 16 are free (take it as a compliment if the driver doesn’t charge you!)  It sets off from the hotel every 30 minutes between 4.15 am and 12.45 am, at quarter to and quarter past the hour.  The shuttle running the other way, from the airport to the hotel, sets off on the hour and the half hour from 4.30 am until 1 am.

Hotel facilities

The Hilton London Stanted Airport has a fine dining restaurant and a bar serving snacks and alcohol.  There’s also a coffee shop where you can get a pastry, or a take away meal, if you’ve got a very early departure.  As you would expect in a hotel of this size and class, there are extensive health and fitness facilities.  This includes a gym, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and solarium.  Sounds good, but it’s no match for the real sun and the outdoor pool on your holiday!  For those on business rather than pleasure, it’s got 16 meeting rooms for anything from 2 to 250 people.  There’s WiFi throughout the building, but you have to pay to use it.

Guest rooms

Go straight through the 2nd roundabout and you’ll see the hotel on the left-hand side.  From the M25, exit at Junction 27 (signposted M11 Stansted Airport). It’ll take you about 20 minutes to reach the Hilton London Stansted Airport. The nearest train station is at Stansted Airport.  You can catch the shuttle bus from there to the hotel.

Airport views

You can get some good views of the airport from this hotel – the best bedrooms to book are the ones facing the airport on the top (third) floor.  From them you can see planes departing on runway 23.  You can’t take pictures from the hotel, but if you walk down to the runway 05 threshold you can get some good shots.  It’s about half a mile from the hotel.

Check-in/out and breakfast

Check-in is from 2 pm and check-out is up until 11 am.  You can pre-order a Continental breakfast which has to be collected from reception.  It costs £4.95 and you can book it for whatever time you wish between 4 am and 11 am.  If you would like to set yourself up with a cooked breakfast, you can get one in the main building of the motorway service area.   This is just a brief walk along a pedestrian footpath from the hotel reception.

Shuttle bus

There’s no shuttle bus.  A taxi can be pre-booked by reception the night before your departure.  It takes about 10 minutes and costs £10.

Hotel facilities

There isn’t a restaurant within the hotel itself but there are a few places to eat in the main building of the motorway service area which is just behind the hotel.  There are vending and ice machines in the hotel in case you are desperate for a snack or a cold drink and can’t be bothered going across to the other building. There’s a 24 hour reception and they’ll happily provide you with a number of useful freebies – newspapers, local phone calls, faxing and photocopying.

Guest rooms

There are 60 bedrooms over 2 floors.  They all come with the usual bits of kit – TV, clock radio and hair dryer.  Executive rooms are air conditioned and have the added extras of coffee machines, irons and snack packs with water.  You can request a lap top safe and there’s Wi-Fi internet access in all the rooms, although you’ve got to pay for that.

Accessibility

They have accessible rooms with roll in showers for wheelchair users and wider door frames.
