Parking

Overnight parking is available for residents.  There’s a charge of £8 for leaving your car between 4 pm and 8 am.  The car park is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  If you want to leave your car at the hotel whilst you are away on holiday, you can book a park and fly package including a room for the night and long term parking.

Check-in/out and breakfast

Check-in is from 3 pm; if you need to get in earlier than that you can telephone in advance and they’ll see what they can do.  You can check out up until noon, but if you want a long lie, ask at reception when you arrive – they’ll do their best to give you a late check-out.  They also have an express check-out service; to use this, leave your credit card details at reception when you check in.  Porters can give you a hand with your luggage when you’re arriving or departing.  There’s a full English or continental breakfast on offer between 5 am and 10 am, or 11 am at weekends when you can have an extra hour in bed (as long as you don’t have to get up to catch your flight!)

Shuttle bus

They run a shuttle bus to the airport which takes 6 minutes.  It costs £2 per adult and children under 16 are free (take it as a compliment if the driver doesn’t charge you!)  It sets off from the hotel every 30 minutes between 4.15 am and 12.45 am, at quarter to and quarter past the hour.  The shuttle running the other way, from the airport to the hotel, sets off on the hour and the half hour from 4.30 am until 1 am.

Hotel facilities

The Hilton London Stanted Airport has a fine dining restaurant and a bar serving snacks and alcohol.  There’s also a coffee shop where you can get a pastry, or a take away meal, if you’ve got a very early departure.  As you would expect in a hotel of this size and class, there are extensive health and fitness facilities.  This includes a gym, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and solarium.  Sounds good, but it’s no match for the real sun and the outdoor pool on your holiday!  For those on business rather than pleasure, it’s got 16 meeting rooms for anything from 2 to 250 people.  There’s WiFi throughout the building, but you have to pay to use it.

Guest rooms

There are 239 guest rooms.  Double and twin guest rooms are 17 metres square.  They have on-demand movies and pay per view TV, which you can watch on the 32-inch LCD screen.  There’s a clock radio with MP3 connection, telephone, hair dryer, iron and Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries in the bathroom. Family rooms are the same but with an extra single bed.  You can also get interconnecting rooms if you want to keep an eye on the kids.  The deluxe rooms have a few more special touches, like a marble bathroom, bathrobe and slippers.  The suites have extra space – they’re 34 metres square.  They have 1 double bed and a sofabed.  There’s WiFi internet access throughout the building, but this costs extra.  All rooms are air conditioned (for the few days of British summer each year!)

Accessibility

There are accessible rooms and all areas of the hotel are accessible to wheelchair users.  Hard of hearing guests can pick up a vibrating fire alarm from reception.

Directions

From the M11 northbound, exit at Junction 8a (signposted Stansted Airport).  For Southbound, junction 8.  Take the slip road that has signs for the long stay car park. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit which is signposted for the Hilton Hotel. Go straight through the 2nd roundabout and you’ll see the hotel on the left-hand side.  From the M25, exit at Junction 27 (signposted M11 Stansted Airport). It’ll take you about 20 minutes to reach the Hilton London Stansted Airport. The nearest train station is at Stansted Airport.  You can catch the shuttle bus from there to the hotel.

Airport views

You can get some good views of the airport from this hotel – the best bedrooms to book are the ones facing the airport on the top (third) floor.  From them you can see planes departing on runway 23.  You can’t take pictures from the hotel, but if you walk down to the runway 05 threshold you can get some good shots.  It’s about half a mile from the hotel.

Overview

This 3 star hotel is part of the Brook Hotels group. A restored Elizabethan manor house, it offers more romance than your average airport hotel.  It has original features like timber beamed ceilings, and its restaurant overlooks the terrace and gardens.  But never fear – it’s got all the modern technology you’ll need, with Wi-Fi access throughout.  It gets good guest reviews, with most people rating it 3 out of 5 or more (March 2010).

Stansted is the nearest railway station. If you’re coming by car, you need to leave the M11 at junction 8a (Northbound) or junction 8 (Southbound).  After that, follow signs to Stansted Airport. Before terminal building, take the last exit on Coopers End Roundabout and go towards Elsenham. At the T junction in Elsenham, turn right onto the B1051. Whitehall is 3 miles further along that road.  It takes about 15 minutes from the M11.

Airport views

Those hoping for airport views would be better booking into one of the on site hotels, like the Hilton.  There’s nothing to see from here.
