This 3 star hotel is part of the Brook Hotels group. A restored Elizabethan manor house, it offers more romance than your average airport hotel.  It has original features like timber beamed ceilings, and its restaurant overlooks the terrace and gardens.  But never fear – it’s got all the modern technology you’ll need, with Wi-Fi access throughout.  It gets good guest reviews, with most people rating it 3 out of 5 or more (March 2010).

Whitehall Hotel Stansted Airport reviews

The Whitehall Hotel is in the countryside to the north of Stansted Airport, about 3 miles from the terminal building.  It takes 10 minutes to drive there.

The hotel has complimentary parking for guests overnight, but there is no airport parking available.

Check-in/out and breakfast

Check-in is from 2 pm and check-out up until 11 am.  Breakfast costs extra – £8.50 for the Continental and £13.95 for the Full English.  These are on offer between 7 am and 9.30 am during the week and 8 am to 10 am at weekends.  If you’ve got a very early flight to catch, they can provide you with a Continental breakfast earlier than that, as long as you arrange this in advance.

Shuttle Bus

There’s no shuttle bus.  A taxi to the airport costs £11 and takes about 10 minutes.

Hotel facilities

The Whitehall Hotel has a restaurant with a lovely timber beamed roof and views over the gardens and terrace.  There’s a big banqueting room which can be used for conferences with up to 120 delegates.  There are also 3 smaller meeting rooms.  You can take an aperitif or a nightcap at the hotel bar and the receptionist is on duty 24 hours a day, in case you need anything. Wi-Fi access is available throughout the house for those poor folks that have business to attend to!  However, you have to pay for this.

Guest rooms

There are 26 rooms, all of which are en suite.  There are 5 Superior Rooms which are bigger and can accommodate up to 5 people as a family room, with extra pull-out beds put in.   These rooms also have a separate shower in the bathroom rather than over the tub, as in the Standard Rooms.  There’s also a Penthouse Suite which is a very large room with a separate sitting area.  All the have Wi-Fi internet connections (which is chargeable), satellite TVs and radios.  You’ll also find the other little extras you would expect –  like a hairdryer and tea and coffee.  You can order room service if you’re too tired to go down to the restaurant, but it’s really very pretty, so worth a visit.

There are bedrooms on the ground floor, but none are specially adapted as accessible rooms.

Stansted is the nearest railway station. If you’re coming by car, you need to leave the M11 at junction 8a (Northbound) or junction 8 (Southbound).  After that, follow signs to Stansted Airport. Before terminal building, take the last exit on Coopers End Roundabout and go towards Elsenham. At the T junction in Elsenham, turn right onto the B1051. Whitehall is 3 miles further along that road.  It takes about 15 minutes from the M11.

Airport views

Those hoping for airport views would be better booking into one of the on site hotels, like the Hilton.  There’s nothing to see from here.
